Colonising histories surround us: they are evident in the names of streets, the statues of people that represent our past and the memorials where we are encouraged to remember. These memorial landscapes largely represent white, male narratives and are focussed on supporting the act and continuation of conquest.
A creative collaboration and exhibition by Aboriginal women, The Violence of Denial is facilitated by Worimi artist, filmmaker and storyteller Genevieve Grieves (lament) – who brings together works by artists Vicki Couzens, Dianne Jones, r e a and Julie Gough, along with a public talks program. The Public Talks program runs from Thursday 11 – Saturday 13 May. The exhibition is free. The Public Talks Series is ticketed and tickets can be purchased here.
