Applications for BARRING YANABUL have now closed.


Who can apply?

Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and/or First Nations peoples;


Be a practicing artist and/or organisation with demonstrated experience applicable to the proposed performance outcome, including the project management skills to realise the project in public space in conjunction with the YIRRAMBOI event management team;


Be 18 years or over;


Be based in Australia (Artists from interstate must note that travel expenses must be incorporated within their budget);


Be able to attend Test Site Development Workshop – a compulsory two-day intensive work shop lead by industry specialist performing in the public realm; and


Performance must take place within the Barring Yanabul ‘Zone’ (Lonsdale to Flinders St, Elizabeth to Russell St) – VIEW MAP


Priority for acceptance to BARRING YANABUL will be given to:

Applicants who meet the ‘Who can apply’ criteria;


Be available for production meetings in the lead up to the festival;


Your project must demonstrate artistic merit – quality, integrity and originality;


Your project must be suitable for presentation in an outdoor public space with minimal production requirements; and


Projects that show new ways of working in public spaces to engage audiences and create dialogue.


Applications close 11:59pm (AEST) on Sunday 11 November. EOIs submitted after the closing date will not be considered unless extenuating circumstances prevail as determined by the City of Melbourne;


Acknowledgement of receipt of your EOI does not guarantee acceptance of your application or any individual or business into the Barring Yanabul. Acceptance into the program is at the sole discretion of the City of Melbourne; and


The City of Melbourne has overall responsibility for the delivery of the YIRRAMBOI Festival, and maintains creative, directional, and conceptual control of festival components.


Budget Proposal

Be within a $3,000.00 budget (subject to the scope of your project);


Fee must include any rehearsals, preparation costs, props and time managing your work; (Note: staff, permits and technical fees will be covered by YIRRAMBOI)


All Barring Yanabul artists will be supported by YIRRAMBOI, who will manage production, permits, sites and marketing and communications at no cost to the artist.
