The City of Melbourne is pleased to announce it has appointed Caroline Martin, a senior Koorie leader, as Creative Director to lead the YIRRAMBOI First Nations Festival planned for May next year.
Her appointment has the unanimous support of the festival’s Elders Council.
Caroline is a direct descendant of the Briggs family and Custodian of Boonwurrung Country. She is an experienced senior creative, manager and senior policy adviser in a broad range of environments across cultures, arts and tourism and her experience includes many committee memberships and executive roles on a number of boards of management for more than 30 years.
Among Caroline’s most significant achievements to date, was advocating for the development of the national and international award winning First Peoples exhibition at Bunjilaka Aboriginal Cultural Centre, Melbourne Museum and managing the Koorie community engagement and collaboration process to ensure its ultimate success.
Caroline manages her own consultancy, Yalukit Marnang, a First Peoples owned and operated business, and is passionate about developing and delivering programs that aim to strengthen cultural competencies and professional capabilities. Caroline’s core values of inclusiveness, cultural safety and respect underpin every aspect of her work.
