J-Maine Beezley | Wakka Wakka/Cubbi Cubbi
J-Maine is a proud Wakka Wakka/Cubbi Cubbi fulla from Eidsvold, in the North Burnett Region of Queensland.
J-Maine moved south to Melbourne and began his career as an Associate Producer with ILBIJERRI Theatre Company in 2017. Working on community events. J-Maine had the upmost honour and privilege to work closely and establish a close relationship with the local community and in particularly with five local groups of the Eastern Kulin Nations in Tanderrum which lead the Opening Ceremony for Melbourne International Arts Festival.
J-Maine continued to produce Tanderrum for a further two years after securing a position with YIRRAMBOI First Nations Festival as an Associate Producer, his main focus on Barring Yanabul which is an epic day long, Melbourne city wide blakout of over 80 deadly performers in all different art forms.
J-Maine’s biggest achievement thus far is co-curating BlakHEART Festival at Federation Square which was a creative playground for over 50 First Nations Practitioners.
Now currently the Development Producer with YIRRAMBOI Festival. J-Maine aims to support, nurture and create opportunities for First Nations creative practitioners by developing and supporting them to showcase and present new works as part of the Festival.
“The word YIRRAMBOI really speaks for itself. The word TOMORROW generally means the future. The future is First Nations. Quoting from a deadly shirt I have, thanks Nungala Creative!”
